Objection

Redeveloping the town centre never included over 300 new rental apartments and this number is not what the town needs. The disruption caused by this work will lead to 3 to 5 years of the town becoming a building site by the end of which thousands of tourist will have a poor customer experience and may never comeback. Local businesses may not survive and many may not survive. Redeveloping the main shopping street is a better way to make Buxton a unique place to visit rather than looking like any other town. New frontages on all the shops in spring gardens, like the couple of shops that have been done, makes the town a destination venue which is unique. It makes the Main Street a great place to meander and shop rather than a street like any other. This is also provides better value for money and could attract more high end or artisan shop. Some of the money could support rate reductions to initially help new businesses.
