In a nut shell: Plans include five-storey buildings, a proposed tower, and massive 'Capital' and 'Centric' lettering on display. A significant portion of banking and woodland behind the station will be removed. The project involves 25,102m2 of new residential space, demolishing 4,073m2 of current commercial areas (shops, bars, cafes) and adding 4,234m2 of new commercial space'just a modest increase of 161m2. A total of 332 new homes will be built, with 45% (149) being one-bedroom units aimed largely at the rental market for higher returns, rather than affordable or social housing. The 422 parking spaces at Spring Gardens and Wye Street car parks will be lost, replaced by 264 new spaces. With even half of the new homes having cars, 166 spaces would be needed, leaving only 98 available. The design resembles many modern urban streetscapes but doesn't quite reflect Buxton's beautiful Victorian spa town charm and distinctive architecture.
