When I heard from a relative who lives in the High Peak that Buxton shopping centre was in for regeneration, I was initially very excited at the prospect, would we get more Georgian/Victorian style architecture? The Pavillion Gardens are stunning. We drive up to visit our relatives, and Buxton is always on our hit list. We love the feel of the town, the gardens and shop in the local shops for gifts, then eat at the local cafes and restaurants. The beauty of the town is matched only by Bath. A mini version and just on the doorstep, we don't need to drive all the way down there to see the original! Then, when I was sent the plans my heart absolutely sank, what are the developers thinking? They look awful! I think it would be important for the planning and developers to be aware that this will likely drive tourism away from the town, if these hideous plans go ahead! There are so many other nicer places that haven't been destroyed by developers to visit instead, within the Peak District, if we want to go out as a family. We visit to see a SPA town, admire the views and the buildings, learn about the history. Not to look at these vile, modern looking, incompatible buildings that will tower over the beautiful ones already there. I think Buxton will be looking at big losses over the years if these were approved. People like us will stop visiting, and Buxton will have lost the character it is known for. I felt I had to borrow a smart phone, just so I could object too! I hope the people of Buxton and High Peak get listened to in their objection.
