I support the redevelopment of Buxton Town Centre and I think the aims and objectives of the proposal are bold and admirable and will help revitalise the town centre. I also think the landscaping and gateway proposals are brilliant. However I do have a couple of major concerns. The proposed parking doesn't seem to have any provision for Electric Vehicles with rapid or non rapid EV charging infrastructure, despite when complete there will be a ban on new petrol and diesel vehicles, the majority of spaces should have charging provision, especially residential parking which would otherwise not have anywhere to charge an EV. On a similar note there doesn't seem to be any detail on how the buildings will be aligned to Net Zero, are they planning to be fully electric. There is a lot of flat roof space, could there be solar panels? One of my main concerns is the proposed architecture of the buildings. The design looks very homogenous with other Capital and Centric Developments in Stockport, Newcastle Under Lyne and Campus in Manchester. What makes Buxton town centre unique is its heritage and distinct architectural character, considering this development is near conservation areas and is designed to compliment existing assets, I think the building architecture should be more sympathetic to the Georgina architecture. More stone and slate greys. I feel like the current design looks more brutalist in nature and will very quickly go out of fashion, becoming 'of it's time'. I believe there could be a greater balance between modern (I think the proposed landscaping does this well), maybe the odd living wall (such as on the proposed carpark perhaps) combined with buildings which give more of a nod to traditional designs. I think the modern retail centre in Bath does this very well. [Page 2]
