I object to the application due to overdevelopment of the site, the loss of parking for residents and visitors and overall design. The original plan for 75 apartments seemed appropriate but now that the number has more than tripled, this will impact on parking for everyone. Buxton is a small town where many residents require a car to get to work and around the area as public transport is limited. The proposed number of allocated spaces for residents in the development will likely be too few. Most residents are likely to own a car and couples will potentially have more than one. Many residents in the town centre already have to use the car parks due to the lack of permits for residents and unrestricted street parking. The loss of public spaces in the centre, despite proposals for another car park at the train station, will be felt by all. With the proposed sale of the Town Hall and loss or reduction of those spaces, parking in the centre will be especially constrained in the spring and summer months when tourists visit. The overall design of the plan seems more suited to a big city, rather than complimenting Buxton's heritage buildings. The design could be much more sympathetic, instead it looks similar to the developer's over sites. Buxton needs more affordable homes, good parking facilities, more leisure facilities (cinema/entertainment venues) and a centre that highlights its heritage. This development does not provide any of those and represents a large overdevelopment which is weighted towards providing excessive profits for the developer over the needs of the town.
