Objection

I object to this proposed regeneration development on the grounds that it is inappropriate. It neither contrasts or complements the built environment as is. Buxton is a Victorian Spa Town. It's not a generic mall style opportunity for poor quality unaffordable rental units (shops and flats). The likely increased rents will prohibit start up businesses which can'take ends meet with current cheaper rents and bigger units. The river opening sounded good initially but the vision shown here is for a litter pit no go area. It won't contrast no Ely because the scheme is poorly and cheaply designed. There are few affordable residential properties for sale. Most should be affordable and for sale. it is unacceptable to allow many key buildings to rot whilst pumping money into this retro Merseyway Centre obscenity which won't even last as long as the horrible Spring Gardens mall etc as is. This scheme doesn't include enough convenient parking. It excludes certain traders (Next). It will unfortunately finish a number of traders who will not be able to ride out the chaos and uncertainty. Many on a fine margin will not be able to afford one of the new rental shops. Whilst a greater population within the centre of town might produce a stimulus to the retail sector in the town centre there are many better ( and cheaper) ways to do it. Go back to the drawing board ..before you destroy the very character and USP of Buxton
