I wish to object to planning application HPK/2026/0228. One of my concerns is that the proposal does not adequately consider the impact on parking for residents and visitors to Buxton. Buxton serves not only its own residents but also those from many surrounding villages. Many people rely on travelling into the town by car to access shops, services, healthcare, and other facilities. Parking in Buxton is already under significant pressure, and the existing provision is often insufficient, particularly during busy periods. Any reduction in available parking spaces is likely to make this situation worse. Reduced parking could discourage people from visiting the town centre, which may have a negative impact on local businesses and the accessibility of essential services. I am also concerned about the impact of adding a significant number of additional homes on already stretched local amenities and services. An increase in population will place further demand on healthcare services, schools, roads, public services and other community facilities. Before approving a development of this scale, consideration should be given to whether Buxton's existing infrastructure has the capacity to support this growth without negatively affecting the quality and availability of services for current residents. I also have concerns about whether the proposed housing will genuinely meet the needs of local people. Buxton already faces challenges with housing affordability, and developments should prioritise homes that are accessible and affordable for those who live and work in the area, rather than increasing housing that remains out of reach for many local residents. [Page 2] Buxton is a unique town with a strong heritage and community identity. Any regeneration should enhance the town and benefit the existing community, while protecting its character and ensuring that the needs of current residents are not overlooked. I would ask that the Council carefully considers the cumulative impact this proposal will have on parking availability, the adequacy of local infrastructure, and whether the development genuinely addresses the needs of the local community before making its decision.
