A large-scale, well-funded redevelopment scheme is a good idea but this proposal still has major shortcomings. It should not be rushed through. This not a straight objection but a plea to go back to the drawing board. The main issue is the potential risk to the local economy from permanantly removing a large area of public car parking in a tourist town. A redevelopment is welcome but there should be at least as many spaces as now, on site (potentially underground) and not further away on the rail depot (which would deter shoppers from Waitrose or Spring Gardens. The design statement makes no mention of people coming to Buxton by car. Due to the historic loss of rail lines and poor/slow public transport, this is the only realistic option for most tourists. It is naive to think otherwise. This is not the middle of a large city. Car parks are full on busy weekends. I would also question the type of flats and the need for so many one-bedroom homes. The area needs larger, family- type accommodation.
