I object to the planning proposals for The Springs on the basis of over development and the lack of amenities in Buxton. Buxton maybe a town but it is in the heart of rural communities. We do not have brilliant transport links and the prospect of so many properties in the centre of town only begs the question of where is everyone going to park their cars. I do not believe the assumption that most people living in these flats will not have vehicles, is correct. You only need to look around Buxton to see that there has been a massive increase in car ownership in the last few years. You only need to look at streets like Market Street where cars are parked on the pavement. Also some years ago the number of parking spaces on the Market Place was reduced and its regularly full. Most people rely on theirs cars because if you are wanting to entice commuters into the town you cannot guarantee the rail service or end up having to spend hours on a bus travelling up and down the A6. I also don't believe that people, especially families, will want to live over a shopping centre especially if there are going to be pubs and bars in the area. It would just turn Buxton into another metropolis with all the noise and foot fall that those bring. I also question the type of property and costs of it. I don't believe that the flats will be affordable for the demographic of residents that may want to live in the town centre. Buxton is a major centre for tourism. I understand that there are plans to building a car park near the Station but this is not ideal if you are wanting to shop in Waitrose and once all the residents park where are the tourist going to park. I also don't believe the design is ideal. Yes, it is nice to have green spaces but the current shopping has large covered area between all the shops. It appears that a lot of it will be exposed to the elements. Ok there will be colonnades but this doesnt give the protection that the current shopping centres does. Given the inclement weather that occurs in Buxton I would prefer to keep more of the area covered. [Page 2] I believe the number of properties in the middle of town is excessive and would put strain on the already overloaded services, such as schools and doctors. I do not live in Buxton but visit regularly for shopping, if the devopement were to take place in its current form I would seriously consider not visiting as much.
