I object to the architectural design of this proposal, it is completely at odds with the Victorian & Edwardian buildings in the centre of Buxton. It feels like a lazy "Cookie Cutter" exercise - look at Capital & Centric's proposal for Hull, for instance. This sort of design may work well in Hull, Stoke or Stockport, but would ruin Buxton. It should be noted that McCarthy & Stone original application (HPK/2018/0120) for the site opposite on Station Road was rejected - which had had similar inappropriate modern architecture. This was later revised to a design reflecting central Buxton's architecture. Should a fully revised application be submitted that reflects the surrounds, then I hope that the restoration of Buxton Midland station fan window will be a condition of approval - The original drawings for the cast iron work are held at the Midland Railway Study Centre, in partnership with Derby Museums. It's restoration would provide a wonderful entrance to the area & restore the context of the fan window on the LNWR station.
