I object to this planning application and support the concerns set out by Cllrs Hall and Quinn. In the early stages of the consultation the plans were reasonable: small of number of residential units, facility for the library, museum and art gallery and leisure facilities. What guarantee is there that these facilities will be able to move into this development? I attended the event to see the proposed plans where the C&C planners and architects 'listened to residents'. Their initial plans looked exciting. But unfortunately they listened and then blatantly come up with something entirely different to those residents' requests. Residents feel duped. Designed are overbearing and look industrial instead of complimentary to the surroundings. The number of residential properties now proposed has increased vastly since the initial proposal. C&C have assumed half of the residents in these planned properties will not be car owners and have reduced the car parking accordingly. C&C needs to reality check the state of Buxton's poor public transport links, expensive and limited train service to understand why car ownership in Buxton is so high. Residents rely on their permits to park and shop in the town- if this facility is removed it will kill businesses- especially Waitrose. And what recompense is there for these anchor stores like Waitrose and Next which have been demolished/ wiped off the plans? [Page 2] The proposed new parking site will destroy woodland unnecessarily.(Didn't HPBC declare a climate emergency?) And it's not a suitable site- around 800m from the shopping area. These plans are clearly for the profit of the developers and not for the benefit of Buxton residents or businesses. The area does needs redevelopment/ reconfiguration. Spring centre and car park currently look awful from Station Road. It would be fantastic if the train station linked into the town for pedestrians. ( though couldn't this be done by landscaping the current walking route by Conways?) It would look wonderful if the river was properly opened up ( unfortunately these plans don't open up hidden parts of the river as promised). But the number of residential properties needs to be much reduced and to include affordable properties for sale. And Spring Gardens itself isn't included in this redevelopment- and it really needs to be! Empty commercial premises and properties above look shabby- some look derelict. The paving and seating look decrepit. It all needs addressing before we have 300 city style apartments.
