Whilst I am enthusiastic about the regeneration of Buxton and am supportive of such an investment. I agree with many others who have raised concerns around the disproportionate increased of private residential property (without any allocation for social housing), as compared to the provision of parking or public facilities (including toilets, library/museum space etc.) and the impact this could have on visitors, as well as current residents. In addition, I am concerned with the modern appearance of the proposed exterior of the new buildings, as compared to the traditional housing stock and buildings present in this area and worry this will detract with the beauty of Buxton, a traditional spa town. My concern increases when I consider the questionable decisions taken by local authorities regarding the sale and disposal of other public historic buildings to investors that do not appear to have the best interests of Buxton front of mind or indeed the necessary finances required to do the buildings justice. In short, I feel more due diligence around demand for parking, as well as public facilities versus private/social housing stock needs to be conducted, more financial scrutiny needs to be applied and more empathy needs to be shown towards our historic buildings ahead of this planning proposal being considered for approval.
