I object to the planning application. The development as described is inappropriate. It will detrimentally affect residents' ability to use The Springs as a place to buy life's essentials and meet friends in the community. The development schedule means that the large car park next to the Waitrose supermarket will be inaccessible during works. This will reduce the numbers of people using the stores in the Springs. After completion of works car parking would be significantly less than is currently available. Therefore there is a high risk that Waitrose will close their Buxton branch. Other stores may also close. Buxton has no greengrocer and one butcher. Residents will be obliged to drive or take a bus to the new, out of town, Aldi store rather than being able to walk into town. The developers have applied the same model used in Manchester, near Canal Street, and Stoke on Trent, opposite the railway station. The model is inappropriate for a historic market town and tourist destination. There are too many small flats aimed at people prepared to pay relatively high rents for Buxton. It is completely inappropriate to display a developer's name prominently on any development in Buxton's town centre. It is the first step on the road to 'McBuxton'.
