Although in favour of the redevelopment of the high street, I am concerned that the number of housing units has now increased significantly from the original plans. These apartments are I believe predominantly 1 bedroomed more suited to younger single people with less family accommodation. I feel this does not reflect the needs of the local community. The plans indicate that there will be less parking available despite the increase of planned residential property. Parking can already be stretched and I am concerned that fewer parking spaces will lead to congestion on existing roads as drivers look for other options. Lack of parking will also discourage shoppers to the area having an adverse affect on the high street. As the Waitrose supermarket is a vital component of our current facilities, it remains essential that shoppers have easy access to parking so that shopping trolleys are not 'abandoned' at other locations. I am also concerned for the existing retail units during any development. It would be very disappointing for local residents to lose these facilities.
