Although initially in favour of this planning application, I now object on the grounds of over- development. The plans to build 250 residential units in the centre of town will have a negative impact on the town centre, the parking provision and infrastructure. The plans were initially badged as redeveloping Spring Gardens, but now the plans are showing a housing estate, with no real benefit to the high street, in fact the loss of parking will have a detrimental effect on the town centre. I do not feel that the current plans reflect the historic nature of the town, and I worry Buxton will become visually, 'just another' Capital and Centric redevelopment - some of these redevelopments in post-industrial areas of cities, look great. But is it right for a town that prides itself on its Georgian and Victorian architecture? I would support a project that focused on actually improving the Spring Gardens area, including creating green civic spaces and bringing the museum back into the centre of town whilst retaining parking This could go hand in hand, with a smaller number of residential flats.
