I object to planning application HPK/2026/0228 as I don't think the balance of the development is right for such an important location as the town centre. Buxton is already having new housing estates built around the edge of the town where there is space, so I don't understand why over 300 homes also need to be built right in the middle of the town centre. I do think this is one of those 'once in a generation' opportunities to improve Buxton for residents and visitors - solidify it as an attractive place for tourists, rather than turning it into another large housing development. I actually like a lot of what is being proposed. Opening up the River Wye, creating better public spaces and improving the look of this part of town would all be great for Buxton. I just feel the huge amount of housing in this part of town changes what this development is really about. My other big concern is parking. Buxton is a tourist town and lots of people drive here because public transport isn't always practical; we're a central point to a number of large cities and towns with limited transport options. Families, older visitors and people coming to shop all need somewhere convenient to park. Reducing the number of town centre parking spaces risks puttng visitors off coming into Buxton, which could affect the shops, cafes and businesses that are already here. I would like to see much less housing on this site, more focus on improving the town centre, public spaces, independent shops, leisure and tourism, while keeping enough convenient parking for shoppers, visitors and workers. I think that would make much better use of one of the most important areas in Buxton and help protect the character that makes the town special. [Page 2] I support regenerating this area, but I don't believe the current balance is right. Buxton deserves a town centre that attracts people to visit, shop and spend time here, rather than using one of its most valuable central areas primarily for housing.
