We do not feel this proposal for the centre of the town is the way forward. We are not saying we do not want anything to change but it needs to be more in keeping with the historical buildings we already have in the town. The proposed buildings are suitable for cities where they are replacing old factories and derelict industrial buildings in run down areas, thus making those areas look better. Buxton is not a run down industrial area. Looking at the plans, the buildings are very modern and not in keeping with Buxton's architecture. Also, the buildings look extremely high due to the number of flats that are proposed, there are far too many. There have already been numerous large housing developments in the town increasing the population. We do not currently have the infrastructure in place to cope with even more residents. We are already struggling for dentist and doctor appointments, and some of the hospital services we have are now being moved to Stockport. A major problem will be parking for the new residents, current residents, and visitors to the town. The plans show that there will be a significant reduction in parking spaces in relation to what we currently have at Spring Gardens car park. Increasing the population and reducing the parking spaces does not make any sense. Nothing is mentioned in these plans about Spring Gardens itself, this needs some attention as it is looking very tired. There are already empty shops here, never mind making new shops on the development. Also, it seems we will lose Next and New Look due to the size of the new shops proposed. If these shops leave the town, it will have a big impact for local residents and the local economy, We want to object to this proposal for something that would be more in keeping with the existing buildings and architecture in the town.
