I am deeply concerned about the reduction in car parking space. I need disabled access. We go to the town centre daily and with the current, double size, find every slot taken about half the time. The whole car park overflows every time Buxton does what it should and encourages visitors to special events- markets, fairs, eat in the park, or just summer holidays. Buxton has steep hills in every direction. It is a lot colder and wetter than almost anywhere. We can expect snow and ice in five months of the year.I am not convinced that people can be nudged into walking or cycling. Bus stops are well spread geographically, within the town and in nearby villages, and cold and miserable to wait at. Other town centre car parks? With extra capacity? Where? Do we need so much residential provision there? Surely better placed on the derelict site by the station, and car parking supplied closer to the centre. I supported the initial proposal, with less residential use, more open space, better materials: although I was dubious about the tendency to brush aside queries about car parking. I now oppose.
