I do not think that the current planning application is the correct one for Buxton. The design changes and the use of lots of concrete do not reflect the sort of town that is Buxton. I feel that Buxton's character has been greatly overlooked. The proposed increase of residential properties from 74 to 332 is far too great for a town centre the size of Buxton. Surely we should be looking to encourage local people as well as visitors to come into the town to do their shopping and spend their leisure time here rather than to live in the town centre. This could be achieved by encouraging more retail businesses into the town. We could end up actually losing businesses by demolishing part of the shopping centre. It appears that we are to lose car parking spaces too. If spaces are to be provided behind the railway station it will mean quite a walk for people to get to the centre. It also appears that green spaces (roofs and trees) have been reduced in the latest plans. Nor do I think that buildings of 4 or 5 storeys high are in keeping with the feel of Buxton.
