I strongly object to this proposed development. I felt utterly shocked when I first became aware of it and its implications. I agree that the central shopping area needs drastic improvement to create a more useful and attractive environment for residents and visitors to enjoy shopping, eating and drinking, socialising, etc. there is certainly a need to attract more quality shops - at the moment the shopping available is so limited that it is necessary to travel to other areas frequently. It is amazing that towns smaller than Buxton have more variety of good shopping facilities and a pleasant atmosphere to wander round in the shopping area. This needs to be done, however, in keeping with the beautiful and unique a architecture for which Buxton is known and enjoyed - not by installing ultra-modern buildings which would be totally out of place and unsuitable in historic Buxton. What would be the purpose of building modern rental accommodation in this environment? A money-making enterprise obviously! It would increase traffic and parking problems in an area which should be pleasant, calm and reasonably traffic free. The whole idea is ludicrous - totally out of keeping with the unique atmosphere and surroundings - and certainly would not benefit the residents of Buxton in any way.
