I object to planning application HPK/2026/0228, although I do have some concerns that could be addressed if the scheme were revised. My main concern is the loss of convenient town-centre parking. Buxton is my nearest shopping town and, as a visitor from Chapel-en-le-Frith, I rely on easy access when shopping there. Removing so much centrally located parking would make the town less accessible for local people, older people, those with mobility issues and visitors. I am also concerned that this could reduce footfall and harm existing businesses, including essential retailers, if parking becomes too difficult or inconvenient. I also have concerns about the impact on Buxton's heritage and character. The proposed housing areas look very stark and more like university accommodation than buildings that belong in Buxton. While I welcome landscaping and greenery, I would like to see the design softened so that it better reflects and blends with the town's existing Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture. I am further concerned about the effect on Buxton's town centre economy. Buxton needs improvement, but it must be done in sympathy with the surrounding architecture and with proper consideration for the existing local population and businesses. The town needs a better balance of shops and services, including more quality retailers, to support both residents and visitors. I also worry that Spring Gardens could be left behind if attention and funding are focused on the new build, as it already feels tired and shabby. If the scheme were amended to retain more convenient parking, better respect Buxton's heritage setting, and include stronger support for the town centre and existing retailers, I would be more open to supporting it. ________________________________
