The above proposal is classed as Town Regeneration. The figures for the upward growing accommodation suggest that this is in fact a residential scheme. With the design totally against the heritage of our Spa Town. Buxton is a great place to live, and tourists love its heritage and beautiful buildings. We want a legacy for future generations to enjoy and be proud of. Please don't let developers who know nothing about the unique area we live and work in spoil our town. We could end up with a under occupied housing estate in the centre of our Spa Town. And with nowhere to park. Car and disable parking is the essential lifeline to any successful town. Buxton has a rural population who shop and visit the centre. And thousands of tourists and day trippers come to our Spa Town for its heritage and charm. The developers propose to remove 422 existing parking spaces, some of which have disabled access. And build developments of which their design, scale, and choice of building materials are out of keeping with the established character and architecture of our beautiful town which tourists travel to see. The lift shaft is an eyesore. At the early stages in talks, it was said to resemble a piece of Buxton history, a maypole. ?????? The developers propose to give us 260 parking places in return. But also plan to have an addition of over 300 dwellings in the developments which will have numerous occupants. Stating that not all the occupants will have cars. As an afterthought the new 200 car parking plot purchased by the council behind the railway is too far for people to carry their weekly shop. And trees would have to be removed to clear the area. [Page 2] There is already congestion in Station Road and the proposed entrance to both parking areas will add to the traffic disruption in the town which is already extremely heavy with frequent delays. The town and infrastructure cannot cope with all the extra development. Our loyal shopkeepers will lose trade while there is so much disruption. And even Waitrose, New Look, Next and Nationwide might decide it is not worth staying in our town. Our library and museum should have been housed in the Buxton Town Hall. Instead of selling off another of the town's assets. It seems that the development is an excuse for the town to be taken over by one company making money out of accommodation at the expense of our town. If it goes wrong, there will be no coming back. The gp surgeries are over brimming with patients and schools are struggling. All this extra accommodation will put a strain on all our services. For all these reasons, I strongly object to HPK/2026/0228 and 9 and ask that it be refused. Yours faithfully, Carol Gilman.
